President
Jeff has been involved with batteries since he was a small child. His father started Interstate Batteries in Nevada and Arizona in 1976. Since then, it has been a family staple being part of the battery family. He remembers family vacations and celebrations usually involving some of his father’s staff, partners, vendors and customers. It seemed like that is how life was for everyone.
After growing up he moved to Salt Lake City and found his way into telecom. That was a different world then the family atmosphere he had thought everyone was a part of. About 10 years into that career, Jeff decided he wanted to do something different. While he had always worked for great companies, the culture was not the same. He recalls stories of when his wife Brenda was with him in elevators at a convention talking with a nice guy. After the guy leaves his wife asks him who that was… Well, it was Joe Gibbs. Jeff has known Joe for years and always talks with him like a friend.
Another experience is when Jeff and Brenda were at the corporate office taking a tour prior to purchasing the distributorship. A gentleman stopped them in the hallway and remembered Jeff by name. They talked for 15 minutes catching up and shaking hands. Brenda wanted to know what that guy does with Interstate Batteries. That was Norm Miller who happens to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Interstate Batteries of America. There are numerous examples of how the executive leadership always treat others as if they are their family. That is what has drawn Jeff Rands to the business.
He also happens to have led large teams across the country, worked on outsourcing call centers, contract negotiations, has an MBA and many other accomplishments. The largest accomplishment in his life is the family he serves – his beautiful wife and three boys.
